In 2023, Shelby Construction was entrusted with transforming a Florida family home’s exterior by creating a functional, visually striking outdoor living space and a more defined, welcoming front entry. The mission was to build a custom covered area near the pool and elevate the home’s curb appeal—all while meeting strict structural and design requirements.

Goal
The clients came to us looking to reimagine their backyard and entryway to better reflect their lifestyle and family needs. The primary focus was to build an expansive covered area near the pool that would serve as a centerpiece for outdoor gatherings. They envisioned a large, stylish gazebo that would offer both protection from the elements and a sophisticated visual anchor for the entire backyard.
At the same time, the front of the home needed more presence. The homeowners wanted a proper entryway—one that made a statement and enhanced the home’s overall aesthetic. Their dream included the installation of oversized, 12-foot iron and steel impact-rated doors, a distinctive design element that would require careful engineering and sourcing.
With both form and function in mind, Shelby Construction set out to bring this transformation to life.
Challenges
One of the most significant challenges was locating and installing the 12-foot custom impact-rated doors the clients had envisioned. These doors, constructed of heavy iron and steel, needed to meet stringent Florida building codes and pass engineering review—all while preserving the sleek, contemporary look the homeowners desired.
